Let’s Rewind to Life at Habib University

 By Shayan Jawaid

Ever wondered what student life feels like at a place that mixes tradition, modernity, and a whole lot of chai? Welcome to Habib University — a private liberal arts and sciences university nestled in Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi, far from the commercial hustle of Clifton but close to something even better: peace, creativity, and purpose.

When you walk into Habib’s campus, you don’t just see a university — you see a space that breathes design. The red brick architecture feels like a modern tribute to ancient tradition, and the courtyards? Oh, they’re Instagram-worthy every time the golden hour hits.

Habib isn’t just about academics, though. Sure, they offer top-tier programs in Computer Science, Communication Design, Electrical Engineering, and Social Development & Policy — but let’s talk campus culture. From chai breaks at the popular “Mohtarma Canteen” to deep conversations on the curved staircases of the library, Habib offers a vibe that’s rare to find elsewhere.

What sets Habib apart? The Yohsin philosophy — thinking critically, creatively, and responsibly. Students here are more than degree-chasers; they’re thinkers, doers, and change-makers in the making.

I still remember my first day — a little too early, nervous energy, carrying a backpack full of expectations. I got lost, of course. Ended up in the library before I even found my first class. But somehow that accident led me to one of the best spots on campus. I met a senior there who gave me a tour, shared notes, and even got me into the Film Club. That’s how things work at Habib — one small moment turns into a lasting memory.

From heated debates in amphitheaters to open mic nights at the student lounge, every corner of Habib echoes with student voices. The Playground (a multi-purpose social space) isn’t just for chilling — it’s for experimenting with ideas, hosting workshops, film screenings, and sometimes just lying down with your laptop and getting work done.

And don’t even get me started on Arzu Center — it’s where art, literature, and critical thought collide. Habib teaches you to question — not just your syllabus, but also the world around you.

When it comes to admissions, yes, the process is rigorous — online assessments, writing samples, and interviews — but it’s more about who you are than your grades. And once you're in, you become part of a tightly-knit community that supports, challenges, and inspires you.

I didn’t complete all four years at Habib — life happened, and I had to leave midway. But if I ever get the chance, I’d go back in a heartbeat. Not just for the classes or the degree, but for the people, the memories, and the version of myself I discovered there.

Habib University continues to grow, adding new facilities, stronger financial aid, and even broader exchange programs. Whether you're into coding, filmmaking, policy, or poetry — there’s a space for you here. It's not just about being a student — it’s about becoming a thinker with a purpose.
